A large party of golfers and their wives – plus a few other ladies . . . read on ! – joined us at Tewkesbury Park in early October for the 2009 finals of our two popular tournaments. A great time was had by all and the bar stayed open late. The weather was kind on Sunday (practice day) and Monday though some rain spoilt some of the early holes for the finals. Despite that everyone enjoyed a great time and many new friendships were forged, and others renewed.

National Seniors Club Classic
In the semi-finals Studley Wood met Turton and the latter came off the course with a 3-1 victory. The other semi-final, between Tandridge and Oak Park ended up with the same score, Tandridge being the victors. On Tuesday the two Ts met each other and again a 3-1 victory was recorded, the title going to the Tandridge team of Phillip Barnett, Roger Hall, Richard Russell and Bernard Fogarty (pictured below with the trophy and other important items !)

Seniors Club Classic Plate
Into the Plate semi-finals went Mid Kent, who lost out 3-1 to West Herts, making a rapid return to the finals after losing out in 2008; and Pannal, who beat Olton 2½ - 1½, despite the fact that Olton were well and truly supported by their wonderful team of caddies – see the picture. Let's have more of this ! West Herts won the Plate final, also by 3-1, which almost turned out to be the favourite score of the week. But the gentlemen of Olton, again supported by their caddies, grabbed third place with a 4-0 victory over Pannal.

National Seniors Pairs Championship
The National Seniors Pairs Championship final enjoyed a unique moment in 2009 when the four players involved – Jim Robinson and Chris Pennington from Cobblehall, and Peter Goy and Chris Ridgwell from Thorpe Hall, were tied after 18 holes and decided to share the Championship. The celebrations of this wonderful sporting gesture were cut short by the death of Jim Robinson in December. He will be remembered with love and affection by all who met him. In the photograph below he is seen in the striped shirt.
